British Expeditionary Force
Old contemptibles - MONS & THE BEGINNING
Carrying a reputation for being well trained and disciplined, the arrival of the British regular army in France in 1914 struck fear in their foe. Yet overconfidence and antiquated tactics almost proved fatal for the BEF as they fought a defensive action at Mons. Reservists were quickly mobilized in mass as causalities mounted throughout 1914. Bravery and sacrifice ensured the BEF's survival in the first year, but it left only a few remaining prewar regulars who earned the title "Old Contemptibles."
TRENCHES & TRADGEDY - western front
Britons, Scots, and Irishmen answered the call to arms from far and wide. Time and time again they demonstrated incredible courage and endurance as they were thrown into the hellscape of the Western Front. Places such as Thiepval, Ypres, and Arras would be forever etched in the memories of those men who fought over them. Yet despite the casualties and questionable tactics of some generals, the tommie's remained steadfast in their loyalty throughout the conflict.
