Forces of the Commonwealth
"Springboks" - South aFRICA
South Africa was among the many nations called into the Second World War upon it's outbreak in 1939. The entry of Italy into the conflict jeopardized the allied position in Africa and the Union was quick to mobilize it's forces to do battle in both the North and East of the continent. South African soldiers or "Springboks" as they were affectionately dubbed, fought bloody and decisive campaigns in their home continent, eventually taking the fight to Italy until the end of the war. Their bravery and success on the battlefield was hard to rival.
RATS OF TOBRUK - AUSTRaLIA
Australia once again mobilized it's forces upon the call of the Commonwealth in 1939. Aussie soldiers arrived in mass to North Africa where they did battle in some of the most trying conditions on the planet. Their famous stands at Tobruk and in Greece would earn them renowned as they fought to hold the Axis at bay. Yet this conflict would prove an even greater trial as Japan attacked the Pacific, Australian soldiers fighting tooth and nail in Malaya, Burma, and in New Guinea to prevent an invasion of their home. Their persistence and endurance throughout the conflict certainly reflected kindly on the famed "Anzac Spirit" and ensured Australia remained an independent nation.
