Africa & The Middle East
TRAGEDY & POLITICS - AFRICA & THE MIDDLE EAST
As soon as European dominance in the Middle East and Africa began to falter, there was no stopping the replacement of the old imperial order with the spirit of independence. Peoples across these regions threw off the yolk of foreign control, only to often tragically stumble into internal violent civil and ethnic infighting or struggles with those old orders which refused to recede. These conditions mixed with the political movements of the time only caused conflicts to grow in their scope and violence, trapping thousands in the destruction of war. Despite the best efforts of UN forces to provide guarantees of safety, little could be done as war spread from the Levant all the way to the heart of the Congo.
