Robert Arthur Fritz
A Company - 102nd Medical Battalion - New York National Guard
New York City was one of the few places in the world where someone could go from humble beginnings to incredible success. Robert Fritz was just another one of those success stories, growing up in Flushing, New York through the depression and the war years. The youthful New Yorker would develop an aptitude for business, which would see him attend Fordham University and work for Irving Trust on Wall Street (1). Besides being an upcoming business tycoon, he also was in the New York National Guard, having enlisted in June of 1948 (1). He would be attached to A Company of the 102nd Medical battalion, which he would drill and serve with for over 10 years (2). His leadership abilities saw rise through the ranks, eventually becoming a 1st Lieutenant. Besides being a solid leader he was also a crack shot and ended up helping to found the "national champion Manhasset Musketeer Shooting Team" (1). He performed his duties as a soldier all well studying in University and gaining experience in the business world. His time in the National Guard would finally come to an end in the late 1950's. The extensive amount of years served saw him awarded the Class IV New York "Long and Faithful Service Decoration" (2). He would end up working as an accountant for several major companies, eventually settling down with his wife, Patricia, in Iowa where he would run his own accounting company (2).
